Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Maroon Masques Summer Theatre Showcase:
1. What is the summer showcase?
The Maroon Masques Summer Theatre Showcase is a one night fundraiser for the Warren County High School Theatre Department. It is held at the end of July or early August.
2. How do you raise funds?
We raise funds through a variety of means: raffle baskets, sales, sponsorships, and donations. We ask businesses within our community to donate something of value for the raffle baskets in return for an ad in our program book. We then sell raffle tickets and draw the tickets right before our closing act. Our sales typically include an art sale containing donated paintings and drawings, bake sale donated by the cast and crew, and a merch table containing hand crafted jewelry, keychains, and more. Additionally, business can purchase an ad space in our program book, if they choose not to donate toward the raffle baskets. Sponsorships are generous donations by our local clubs and organizations: Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Ruritan Club, etc. During the night of the performance, we have donation collections for our patrons to donate if they wish.
3. Where do the profits and donations go?
100% of the proceeds earned will go to the Warren County High School Theatre Department. This will provide a small budget to help defray their costs of rights, scripts, costumes, props, etc for the upcoming school year.
4. Who can participate in the summer showcase?
Anyone in the community can volunteer to participate in the showcase. Positions include: directors & leaders, performers, tech, and designers. You have to be willing to commute to or within Front Royal, VA.
5. Do you need prior theatre experience to participate?
No prior experience is needed—though it is always helpful if you had some. Anyone can be involved as long as they are willing to put the time and effort into learning. You have to be willing to commute to or within Front Royal, VA.
6. What acts are allowed for the showcase?
Outside of our opening and closing numbers (ensemble numbers), acts should be a monologue, scene, or musical number. These acts should be from a stage or screen production/adaptation/project. **Acting acts: Keep content to a PG-13 rating; it’s a family show. **Singing/Dancing/Instrumental acts: No original songs. No covers of "pop culture” songs unless found in a jukebox musical (i.e. ‘22’ by Taylor Swift or ‘Your Song’ by Elton John are NOT allowed; however, ‘Your Song’ from Moulin Rouge the Musical IS allowed).
7. Does this require a lot of time commitment?
In terms of the ensemble numbers, these will require commitment to rehearsals. Rehearsals are typically 2-3 days a week in the evening. We will focus of music, choreography, and blocking. The time-flexibility option is by doing a non-ensemble act. This option allows you to rehearse in your own time whether at home or in the auditorium. This option will require two mandatory tech rehearsals though. All that said, your performance will reflect on how much time you put in.
